British Hair Awards Finalist 2010

Jack Eames Photography images reach British Hair Awards Final 2010

A collection of images by Jack Eames Photography will feature in the finals of the prestigious Hairdressers Journal, British Hair Awards 2010.

The photographs showcase the work of Southern category salon finalists Sanrizz and were short-listed from thousands of applications across the UK.

Jack’s years of experience shooting fashion and hair means the resulting photographs combine precision lighting techniques and attention to detail that keep the styles dynamic. His approach to hair photography is based on vibrancy, sensuality and movement, both in close-cropped and ¾ length shots, and this captured the eye of the experienced panel of judges from Hairdresser’s Journal.

Jack said: “Shooting hair is very different to shooting fashion; both require technical skill and detailed preparation to create powerful imagery but careful composition is crucial with hair photography to properly showcase the styles and bring them to life. Often there is very little time with the models on the shoot so I need to quickly get them moving into positions that really work to get the feel right. It is great that the judges of this award were able to see the true skill of the stylists at Sanrizz through my images.”

Jack forged a close working relationship with Sanrizz and hair stylist, Robert Kirby, throughout the preparation for the shoot; providing expert advice on looks from the mood boards and casting, and inputting creative ideas for the shoot. This included helping to shape the artistic team of stylists and make-up artists to create the entry for the awards.

Robert said he was very happy with the creative process and the end result. He said: “It looks like something you see in Vogue – high end editorial. It has turned out amazing”.

Jack said: “I work closely with each client before the start of a shoot to establish the look they are after and this drives my preparation,”. “With hair photography, you have to make sure that all the aspects work together, and that the makeup compliments, rather than overrides the story of the shoot. Flexibility is essential to make changes that get the best end results if necessary. The lighting should enhance the hair and not flatten the feel while keeping that vital energy that shows the detail of the style and uses the impact from creating shadows.”
